No longer is a cosy hotel bedroom with all the mod cons enough of an incentive to tempt people to part with their hard earned cash. A weekend away in a hotel has less appeal than it once had as more and more our homes are equally as well if not better appointed that even the swankiest hotel. For years, hotels have experimented with themed or special interest weekends, with varying success. Where minimum numbers are concerned there is always the fear of cancellation and ensuing hassle caused by client disappointment or going ahead on a “break even” or worse still “loss making” venture! No surprise then that hotels have fought shy of such weekends, accepting the fact that they just have to rely on competitive pricing or the sad fact a seaside town on a wet weekend in January, struggles to attract even the hardiest of weekend guests. |

There is however a sea change occurring with both weekenders and the market place. There is huge interest and demand from the travelling public to take a short break to experience something new and different in the shape of themed and special interest breaks. The trick as always is to capture the imagination of the public and inspire the reason to choose your hotel over alternative hotels in the same place, other destinations or of course the ultimate threat of simply “staying at home”!
